How did your career go and how did Sé came to be?

In my early twenties, following a year studying history of art in Florence,  I started working at Interiors Bis who during the late nineties and noughties were at the forefront of curating the best of high end European design for interior designers. Rabih Hage, the managing director, generously opened the design industry up to me and I discovered I had a real passion for it. During two informative years on Sloane Ave I was introduced to some incredibly talented people who were very gracious with their time and experience, notably Romeo Sozzi from Promemoria. That period was hugely exciting and shaped my intuition not only about good design objectively but also about design that can generate strong emotional engagement. From London I moved to New York, introducing high-end contemporary European furniture to the US market with Repertoire as well as opening Flou’s flagship store in the US under the direction of Rosario Messina. In 2006, I was approached by Marc Sharifi who had started a company selling ultra-luxurious bespoke chairs. Back then industrial design was hugely popular and I  felt there was an opportunity to create a new, more feminine design aesthetic ; to bring back a sense of old-school glamour through understated elegance, curvaceous silhouettes and flawless finishing. Together, Marc and I, reshaped the proposition and Sé was born.

What kind of relationships do you build with designers?

Our design process is highly collaborative. Sé produces entire collections with a designer in a model akin to that of a couture house. Although there are certain aesthetic parameters which need to be respected, this allows a designer freedom to develop their own cohesive language amongst the pieces.  To realise the pieces we then work very closely with both the designer and our network of producers to create the most elegant version of the designer’s vision.
